The Renault-Nissan alliance has teased images of their five-seater SUVs and announced plans of launching two seven-seater SUVs as well, for the Indian market. The alliance is focused on localisation and will manufacture these units from their Chennai plant.
We anticipate the alliance to revive the position of these companies in India, as well as their sales figures. The alliance is focused on localisation and on utilising their resources on ICE powertrains, instead of EVs for now. These cars will most likely be based on the CMF-B platform, and Renault's five-seater could be called Duster to cache in on the success of the older nameplate. Apart from the four SUVs that were announced, there are two more cars in the pipeline for Renault-Nissan, that may be launched at a later stage. Renault currently has a portfolio consisting of three cars in India, the Kiger, Triber and Kwid. Nissan currently has only one car on sale in India, the Magnite. The Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano were a fruitful result of their alliance previously, and these new launches may do the same for the company. The Renault Kiger, Triber, Kwid and Nissan Magnite, are outdated models now and will not keep the company afloat for a long time. With minor updates, newer editions and facelifts, the companies are trying to garner sales, but these new launches will definitely help the brands claim a stake in the market.
The five-seater SUVs will likely go up against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the MG Astor. The seven-seater SUVs will likely go up against the Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV 700 and the Tata Safari.
