Porsche unveils more affordable Taycan 4S
Just over a month after the global unveiling of the Taycan where Porsche unveiled the Turbo and Turbo S variants with a promise of more affordable variants coming later, they have delivered. Meet the Taycan 4S. It gets two battery options with a 79.2kWh battery standard. The standard 4S will make 514bhp and will hit the 100kmph mark in 3.8 seconds from a standing start.
What's different?
The standard Taycan 4S comes with a 79.2kWh battery, that gives it a range of 407km on the WLTP cycle. Performance isn't compromised, it makes 514bhp and sprints to a ton in 3.8 seconds and hits a top speed of 250kmph. For perspective, the Taycan Turbo has a range of 450km and takes a blistering 3.2 seconds from 0 to 100kmph. The Taycan 4S is capable of being charged on a 800V DC standard battery and has a charge capacity up to 225 kW. There is also an optional Performance Battery Plus that borrows its 93.4kWh battery from the Turbo and Turbo S. The larger battery bumps up the range to 463km and a power output of 555bhp, but keeps the same top speed and acceleration figures. Charging capacity is increased to 270kW, and the optional batteries can get from five to 80 percent charge in just over 22 minutes. The rotor on the permanent magnetic synchronous motor is smaller on the 4S by 80mm, as compared to the Turbo and Turbo S allowing for more compact packaging. The drivetrain layout is identical to the Turbo and Turbo S, with two motors on the front axle and one motor hooked up to a two speed gearbox on the rear.
Other than that, the Taycan 4S gets all the same technology as its Turbo siblings with a plethora of screens on the inside. As standard, the Taycan 4S comes with a partial leather interior as well as front comfort seats with eight-way electrical adjustment. It also comes with the same three-chamber air suspension with adaptive dampers including electronic damper control PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management). The Taycan gets ballistic stopping power too with 360mm discs on the front axle and 358mm on the rear axle.
How do you tell the Taycan 4S apart from the Turbo and Turbo S? The 4S gets model specific 19-inch wheels and brake calipers painted in red. The front bumper is redesigned, and the side skirts are rear diffuser are painted black in the 4S. The 4S gets slightly different LED headlights including the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) as standard as opposed to the LED Matrix units on the Turbo and Turbo S.

The standard Taycan 4S comes in at $103,800 (Rs 74 lakh in USA, excluding Indian duties and taxes) as compared to the Turbo which is priced at $153,000 (Rs 1.08 crore in USA, excluding Indian duties and taxes) and the Turbo S which comes in at $187,000 (Rs 1.33 crore in USA, excluding Indian duties and taxes)
