MG has revealed the prices of the Comet EV. The introductory prices start at Rs 7.98 lakh and go up to Rs 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Here’s a deep dive into the various variants and their pricing
The Pace is the base variant and is priced at Rs 7.98 lakh. On the outside, you get the illuminated MG logo and 12-inch steel wheels. The Pace variant gets power-adjustable ORVMs with LED indicators as standard fitment. You also get keyless entry but only for the driver. On the inside, it comes with starlight black interiors and a fully digital cluster with a seven-inch embedded LCD screen. All variants of the Comet get manual AC controls only. All the variants of the Comet have three USB ports and a 12V power outlet. Other common features include steering-mounted audio controls and a one-touch slide and recline passenger seat for second-row entry. The rear seats can be split 50:50. You also get reverse parking sensors across the range.
The Play variant sits in the middle of the range and gets space-grey interiors. In addition to the features from the Pace variant, it gets LED front and rear lights which are additionally also connected to each other via an LED strip. On the inside, you get a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a floating display with dual 10.25-inch screens. The display comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and MG’s i-smart system with 55+ connected car features. The infotainment screen also offers the option of adding widgets and three display options that can be extensively customised. This model further adds fast charging for your devices through the USB ports which isn't available on the lower Pace variant. You will have to pay Rs 9.28 lakh for this model.
This variant is the top of the range and comes at a price tag of Rs 9.98 lakh. You get all the features of the lower two variants and it further gets tilt steering and a reverse parking camera. What makes this variant special though is the inclusion of an intelligent key feature where you get a digital key that can also be shared with another person. It also has a proximity auto-unlock function.
MG Comet comes with all the basic features such as two airbags and ABS with EBD. You also get TPMS and follow-me-home headlights. MG claims that the Comet has gone through 39 safety tests like crush test, drop test, seawater immersion test, and thermal diffusion. Backing up these high claims, MG is offering a standard warranty of one lakh km or three years on the car, and eight years or 1.2 lakh km for the battery.
You only get a single 17.3kWh battery option that can be charged fully in seven hours. It is linked to an electric motor on the rear axle that produces 41bhp and 110Nm of torque. MG claims an ARAI-certified range of 230km. MG also provides a home charging box with every model. The car has three driving modes and three KERS modes.
The MG Comet is the smallest car and also the cheapest EV in our market. Starting from Rs 7.98 lakh it undercuts the Tata Tiago EV by a considerable margin, which is priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh. The Citroen eC3 is priced between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.43 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tiago EV offers two battery options –19.2kWh and 24kWh while the eC3 gets a 29.2kWh battery. But keep in mind, the price is only applicable on the first 5000 bookings and the prices will increase once it crosses that mark. MG claims a running cost of Rs 519 per 1000km of running and in addition to this, MG is also offering a buyback policy at the end of three years at 60 percent of ex-showroom value.
