Just a couple of weeks back we saw the launch of the updated Jawa 42. Classic Legends has been on a roll launching a slew of motorcycles from the updated Adventure to the BSA, colour updates for various variants with both the Jawa and Yezdi brands. Now they have launched the Jawa 42 FJ. What is the FJ and how is it different from the 42? Let’s find out.

Jawa 42 performance and handling

The primary difference is the engine as the FJ uses the Alpha 2 engine that does duties on the Adventure. The 334cc engine makes 28.7bhp and 29.6Nm and is mated to a slick six-speed gearbox. The standard 42 makes use of the 294cc, J-Panther engine which produces 26.9bhp and 26.8Nm.

The 42 FJ is engineered on a double cradle frame for enhanced handling, paired with a long, 1440mm wheelbase to make full use of the power that the engine makes. It also gets 41mm forks on the front suspension unlike the 35mm on the 42. The tyre width on the 42 FJ is 100mm at the front and 140mm at the rear unlike the 42 which gets 90mm at the front and 120mm at the rear. The dual-channel ABS, combined with larger disc brakes, for increased stopping power, significantly enhancing rider safety and confidence.

Jawa 42 design

The 42 FJ looks very similar to the 42 with the contemporary design. But it gets a segment first, anodised, brushed aluminium fuel tank cladding. This finish enhances the bike's appeal and allows for personalisation through various colour options and Jawa branding choices. Complementing the tank cladding are the aluminium headlamp holder and grab handles, along with aluminium footpegs. These elements contribute to a design that honours Jawa's heritage while embracing modern craftsmanship. An off-set fuel cap adds a unique touch to the tank design. The wide, flat seat with premium stitching ensures rider comfort while maintaining style. Adding to design language is the premium diamond-cut alloy wheels with tubeless tires.
