The Endeavour is Ford’s flagship SUV in India, tough enough to take on the Toyota Fortuner, an icon in it’s own right. To keep up with the new emission norms, Ford has introduced the BS6 version of the Endeavour, with a minor cosmetic facelift and more changes under the skin. It is now powered by a smaller 2-litre diesel engine and comes mated to a 10 speed gearbox. Among other changes the Endeavour also gets all-LED headlamps and connected car features. Prices for the new Endeavour start at Rs 29.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), this an introductory price and will see a hike of Rs 70,000 on the ex-showroom price post April 30.

The 2-litre EcoBlue diesel engine will replace the outgoing 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre units. The new BS6 compliant engine is smaller than before but makes more grunt than the 2.2-litre unit, putting out 167bhp and 420Nm of torque (the 2.2 put out 158bhp and 385Nm). The EcoBlue engine is claimed to be more refined and 14-percent more frugal than before as well. It is claimed to return 13.9kmpl for the 4x2 variant and 12.4kmpl for the 4x4 variant. The engine will come mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. No, that is not a typo, it really has 10 gears. The sheer ratios on offer should help reduce lag, allowing a more optimum gear selection and smoother shifts since the individual ratios will be closer together. Ford has also added the ability to lock into a specific gears improving off-roading capabilities where momentum is key.

Aside from the mechanicals, the refreshed Endeavour gets all-LED headlamps that claim to have 20-percent better light penetration to improve visibility in low light. It features active noise cancellation to reduce the amount of outside noises coming into the cabin, including engine noise. The Ford Pass connectivity solution will add a bunch of connected car features to the Endeavour allowing users to lock/unlock the car or start/stop the engine, among other features, via a smartphone app. This is on top of the outgoing Endeavour’s extensive feature list that includes seven airbags, 800mm water wading capacity, panoramic sun roof, 8-inch touchscreen with support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The refreshed Ford Endeavour is not revolutionary. Despite the fresh face, the bulk of the changes are under the hood. The Endeavour was already a very solid SUV with a feature list to shame most of its competitors. Here is the full price list:
