The much awaited 5-door Force Gurkha has finally been launched at ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from getting an extra set of doors, it has also received a more powerful engine and fancier features on the inside. Here's everything you need to know about it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! That's the mantra Force Motors has stuck to for the styling of the 5-door Gurkha, because it looks identical to its 3-door sibling, with an extra set of doors of course. The iconic G-Wagen inspired styling remains, with a body shape, round headlights, fender mounted indicators, a big grille, all which give it a macho appeal. The 5-door Gurkha gets a 425mm extra wheelbase to accommodate the second row of doors and it rides on 18-inch alloys. Apart from that it also continues to retain the snorkel and two-differential locks for ultimate off-roading prowess.
The 5-door Gurkha gets an uprated version of the OM616 2.6-litre turbo-diesel engine making 138bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. The engine is BS 6.2 emission norms compliant and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Force Motors isn't offering the option of an automatic on the new Gurkha. While its overall dash layout on the inside remains unchanged, the 5-door Gurkha gets a 7-inch digital cluster and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from that, the SUV also gets foldable armrests in the front, rake adjustment for the steering wheel and dual front airbags. Oh and there's also a tyre pressure monitoring system. Gurkha enthusiasts will also find that the second lever for engaging four-wheel-drive is now replaced by a rotary dial because the 5-door Gurkha gets shift-on-the-fly 4x4.
The 5-door Gurkha is priced at ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Mahindra Thar. Force Motors has also updated prices of the 3-door Gurkha, which now starts at ₹16.75 lakh.
