Ducati has launched its most premium bike in India at a starting price of Rs 69.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Ducati has fitted the new Panigale V4 R with racing parts found only in MotoGP and WorldSBK. The engine now produces 215bhp and revs up to 16,500rpm.
While the aerodynamic values are unchanged, the width of the main front wing and the flap have been reduced by half. The fairing, now revised, provides increased airflow to the engine while still complying with the WorldSBK Championship regulations. Additionally, an air intake has been added on the lower left side to cool down the quick shift sensors.
The V4 R takes the electronics available in the V4 to the next level. The previous power modes have been refined, and new ones like ‘Full’ and ‘Low’ have been added. There’s also a new display on the dashboard for the track. And the traction control and the ride-by-wire system have been revised along with the additions of the new engine brake control strategy.
The V4 R traces its design language with the V4 and the V4 S. The bike gets fully adjustable suspension and the front Ohlins NPX25/30 fork now offers five millimetres more travel than the previous model. At the back, you get the Ohlins TTX36 shock absorber and the rear now sits 20mm higher. The swingarm pivot can be further adjusted in four steps of two-millimetre increments to adjust the rear height.
The updated 998cc engine, which Ducati calls the Desmosedici Stradale R, can rev up to 16,500rpm. The engine produces 215bhp with the stock exhaust at 15,500rpm. Attach the Akrapovic racing exhaust, and you get 237bhp. Mind you, this value comes with the special oil developed in collaboration with Shell, which is said to reduce friction and thus increase horsepower.
The Ducati V4 R comes at Rs 69.9 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most premium bike from the brand available in India. But that hasn’t discouraged buyers, as the first lot of five units has already been sold, with deliveries commencing soon. A few days back, BMW teased the M 1000 RR which stands as the sole rival to the Ducati V4 R in India.
