Post the announcement by PM Modi who extended the lockdown period up to May 3, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) approached the Supreme Court with its plea to extend the registration period of BS4 vehicles. Previously Supreme Court had ruled that the BS4 vehicles which were supposed to be sold before March 31 and can be registered with the RTO authorities up to April 30, but the federation is now requesting the Supreme Court to push the last date of registration of BS4 vehicles.

As per records available with Supreme Court, the current inventory of BS4 vehicles comprises of approximately 1.10 lakh units of two-wheelers, 2200 units of passenger vehicles and around 2000 units of commercial vehicles that have been sold before the lockdown but could not be registered after it came into effect. It was also observed that the Supreme Court allowed the dealers to clear the 10 per cent of their BS4 stocks post lockdown and is believed that there will be a new timeframe to support this order as well.
