The Panasonic Lumix S Pro 16-35mm has been the workhorse for evo India’s video team. This wide angle zoom lens can produce a range of viewing angles ranging from 63 degrees to 107 degrees. The fixed f/4 aperture rating means that the construction is lightweight and the lens clocks in at just half a kilogram as opposed to similar wide-angle lenses from competitors that weigh almost twice as much. It is easy to handle and the wide-angle nature allows for everything from interior shots of cars to panoramic shots of the beautiful landscapes we often find ourselves in.
The lens features 12 elements in nine groups, including three aspherical ones that help to minimize spherical aberration and distortion. An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) element is attached to improve sharpness and contrast with a UHR (Ultra-High-Refractive) element to improve image quality on the fringes. These put together ensure that sharpness is exceptional across the whole frame. Fringing is almost non-existent and distortions are kept in check as well. The virtually silent autofocus system does a great job at quickly settling on fast moving subjects and although there is no in-lens stabilization here, the in-body stabilization of the camera comes to the rescue even at very slow shutter speeds.
