OnePlus Y1S Pro TV: More than meets the eye

The ability of OnePlus to woo Indian buyers with quality products that pack as many features into themselves as they can within a budget is unparalleled, and part of the reason why a ‘OnePlus ecosystem’ has quietly grown so prominent in the country. The OnePlus Y1S Pro is the company’s culmination in getting a flagship TV that can do almost everything a consumer wants on a budget. The specs are par for the course, a big 50-inch 4K (3840x2160) display capable of HDR10+ content powered by OnePlus’ own 'gamma engine', which is complemented by a 24W 2 Channel speaker system.

The Y1S Pro is a fantastic screen for daily usage, with a high enough brightness level that allows it to be sharp in the most sunlit rooms as well. Picture clarity is never in question, and watching 4K content is a real eye-opener, especially at this budget. There is a discernible feeling of quality, especially in the way that the TV processes fast-moving scenes, which was a boon when watching Formula 1 in the office. Overall, for the price, there is little to complain about when it comes to the image quality of the Y1S Pro.

The most impressive feature of the Y1S Pro is the number of connectivity features that are inbuilt. Not only does it run on Android 10 out of the box, but it also has the TV version of OnePlus’ OxygenOS built on top of it. This allows you access to a score of live channels within a separate UI. However, we found the base Android 10 UI layout to be snappier and more fluid in actual use. If you own more OnePlus devices, the connectivity is even better, with the ability to connect to your smartphone through the OnePlus Connect 2.0 app, smartwatch and wireless earbuds (provided they are all OnePlus devices). This allows you to control the volume from your watch, use your phone as a remote, and listen to sound in your Bluetooth earphones. The performance is more than adequate with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt memory. There are also three HDMI 2.1 ports, as well as two USB-A ports.
