Tata Motors has launched the new Tiago NRG at a price tag of Rs 5.49 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 6.31 lakh for the diesel one (ex showroom, Delhi). The new car is a beefed up version of the Tiago hatch and is loaded with features.

On the design front, the new car gets numerous upgrades like cladding on all sides, new skid plates on the front and the rear bumper and black roof with roof rails. It makes the car look much more muscular than the standard Tiago. It also gets 180mm ground clearance to give it what Tata calls the ‘Urban Toughroader’ appeal.

On the inside the crossover gets all black interiors with orange highlights, a new bigger 5 inch infotainment display from Harman with 3-D navigation. It also gets an eight speaker(4 speakers + 4 tweeters) Harman Kardon music system.

On the safety front too there’s no compromise as the car comes with dual front airbags, reverse parking assist, ABS with EBD and CSC(Corner Stability control) and follow-me-home lamps.

Under the hood the Tiago NRG will be powered by the same engine as on the standard car. The petrol version retains the 3 cylinder Revotron 1.2-litre unit that churns 85bhp at 6000rpm and 114Nm at 3500rpm. The diesel version is powered by the 3 cylinder Revotorq 1.05-litre motor that makes 70bhp at 4000rpm and 140Nm between 1800-3000rpm. Tata claims that the engines are now much more refined and efficient.

The Tiago NRG is Tata’s entry into the burgeoning crossover segment. The Tiago NRG will rival the Ford Freestyle.
