Maserati GranTurismo production comes to an end

The next GranTurismo will be the first fully electric car in the company’s history

Maserati GranTurismo production comes to an end

Maserati is betting big on electrification and part of this move involves terminating the current models to make way for brand new ones that are built from the ground up to be electric. The first victim of this change is the GranTurismo, a car with arguably one of the best exhaust notes on the market. To commemorate the end of a successful 12 year run for the GranTurismo, Maserati has unveiled a special edition GranTurismo Zéda, the last GranTurismo to roll off the line.

Why the name Zéda you ask? Zéda is the word for the letter Z in Modena, the home of Maserati. It intends to signify an end for the current V8 powered GranTurismo, while also marking new beginnings for the company. From here on all new models will follow the company’s new principles, incorporating the latest technology including autonomous tech and electrification. The Zéda features a tricolour paint on it starting from a glossy Maserati blue, transitioning to a satin black and then a pearlescent white. The paint is done through a complex process to incorporate different effects for each colour. The Zéda gets the same triumphant roar from the exhaust thanks to the 4.7-litre Ferrari sourced V8 engine making 453bhp and 520Nm of torque.

Maserati has also centred its production in Italy, staying true to its roots during this big shift. It has started work to renovate its Modena production plant to modernise it and equip it for the production of next-generation models, the first of which will be an all-new super sports car. The factory will also get a new paint shop, with work already started on the same.

He likes to find weird quirks about cars and dedicates a fairly large space in his head to random car facts and an equally large space in his heart for cars with cool specs. He came across this career path by chance, and going by how excited he gets as soon as new metal rolls into the office, he seems to be loving everyday of his journey as an automotive journalist.
