Skoda reveals sketches of its upcoming compact SUV

Skoda Auto has revealed the sketches of its Vision RS concept car, which will be showcased at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The technical details and the launch dates for international markets will be revealed during its world premiere in Paris. In a short 40-second video clip, Skoda shows a designer sketching the Vision RS compact taking design cues from the 130 RS rally car. The 130 RS was a rear engined, rear wheel drive car and was Skoda’s answer to the Porsche 911 back in the 70’s. It was widely known as the ‘Porsche of the East’ back then.

The Vision RS concept is a compact SUV with a sleek design. The signature Skoda grille, along with the triangular headlamp units give it a striking front fascia. Skoda says that it has focused on making the SUV aerodynamic and the side of the car, as seen in the sketches, is adorned with cuts and slashes along with side skirts to improve on the same. The car looks edgy from the rear as well and the wide tail lights with the Y-theme look cool. The car gets a roof mounted spoiler also. The ‘Y’ theme is carried forward in the alloy wheel design too. Skoda has revealed the dimensions of its Vision RS concept – the car is 4,356mm long, 1,810mm wide with a height of 1,431mm and a wheelbase of 2,650mm.

The RS moniker was introduced back in 1974 by Skoda for its 180 RS and 200 RS rally cars. But it was the 130 RS which made the RS lettering popular, announcing to the world about the arrival of Skoda’s performance division. The 130 RS brought numerous accolades for Skoda in the rallying scene and European Touring Car Championships. The 130 RS was powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which produced 138bhp and was paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox.
