After teasing us with all those camouflaged images and videos of the Cullinan undergoing testing in different parts of the world, Rolls-Royce has finally taken the wraps of its ultimate luxury SUV.
The SUV certainly looks the part of the luxury SUV and the company says that it was specifically designed for taking it off-road. The company claims that the Cullinan is a ‘versatile, family oriented, fun-to-drive super-luxury SUV’. It is the first SUV that sports a ‘three-box’ style compartment. Essentially, a rear partition wall separates the passengers from the luggage compartment. The SUV is built around the company’s all new space-frame architecture that will underpin future Rolls-Royce models. It features ‘coach doors’ and stainless-steel door handles adorn them. Under the hood is a mammoth 6.75-litre twin turbo V12 petrol engine that cranks out 563bhp and 850Nm of peak twist and the engine can run on 95 octane petrol as well. It gets AWD powertrain and an all-wheel steering geometry as well. Rolls-Royce claims that the SUV retains the ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ even while driving on off-road conditions.
The powertrain, front and rear axle are completely new. The Cullinan gets the latest generation of self leveling air suspension and AWD systems. The SUV has a wading depth of 540mm. The Cullinan has an Off-Road button that adjusts the ride settings automatically for different terrains like wet, snow, sand etc. Top speed of this 2.6 tonne behemoth is limited to 250kmph.
The suspension lowers automatically by 40mm for making ingress and egress easy and once the engine is crackled up, it elevates by 40 mm automatically. The SUV is huge and measures 5341mm in length. It offers 600 litres of boot space and the luxury SUV comes with split-type tailgate, where a sliding platform on the floor pops up two seats so that you can sit and have a conversation! The rear seats can be split in 1:3, 2:3 or all three seats can be completely folded to create more storage space. There are two rear seat configurations on offer – Lounge and Individual.
There are loads of high tech wizardry that come along with this SUV like night vision and vision assist, pedestrian warning, alertness assistant, a four-camera system with panoramic view that offers 360° visibility and helicopter view. Safety aspects include collision warning, cross-traffic warning and lane assist. On the inside, the Cullinan comes with a high-resolution heads-up display, WiFi hotspot, navigation systems, five USB ports and wireless charging for mobile phones. The dashboard gets water resistant leather pads and the backrest of the ventilated seats are crafted with single piece of leather. A single control knob placed on the centre console controls the touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard.
