It’s been almost 8000km on the road in just 18 days in our tiny hatchbacks. Don’t take me wrong, the Renault itself has named the car ‘Kwid’ and that says a lot. The Kwid might be tiny but it comes with a massive heart; in terms of strengths and abilities. I have just joined the boys today and I’m mightily impressed by the car’s innate strengths so far. There are no signs of rattle or stress, it feels fresh as a fiddle even today. I drove the Kwid Climber with the AMT ‘box and was pleasantly surprised by the transmission. It doesn’t have a mind of its own (thankfully) like other AMTs and works better than the one seen on the Duster.
The 180mm of ground clearance equals to no scraping anywhere, thus allowing us to go absolutely flat out at all times. And yet, it’s consistently delivering a fuel efficiency of 15.9kmpl, mind you again, the throttle is almost at full play at all times. Fair enough, the roads are much better in this part of the country but that gives us the chance to find out whether the Kwid has long legs or not. As we head to Pondicherry and then back to Maharashtra, we shall tell you more about this.
An unfortunate mishap led to the Kwid’s windshield being cracked, thanks to a stone that came flying straight onto it. But the Renault Vizag service centre did an excellent job and finished the job in a couple of hours! Including the procuring of the windshield. Must say, we were impressed by Renault’s service. Kudos guys! A visit to Andhra Pradesh’s financial capital, Vishakhapatnam can’t be complete without seeing the Kurusera Submarine Museum. The second (only two in the world) museum of its kind on err.. how life in a submarine is. The Soviet procured battleship is obviously decommissioned and has been doing its duty as a museum at the RK beach since then.
As mentioned before, the roads in the whole of South India are brilliant. They are well lit, the surface is smooth and there are barely any potholes. As we head to Pondicherry tomorrow, via Mahabalipuram, the roads are expected to get even better and beautiful they say. We had our shares of beautiful beaches and pretty sights yesterday. But as we head to Pondicherry, the expectations are higher. And we will tell you all about it as we bring you more about this special journey; until then, follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
