Volvo presents new 360c autonomous concept car
Volvo seems to have a strong vision for the future of autonomous driving and electric mobility. And to show us what it can be like to travel long distances in an autonomous car, the company has revealed their new 360c concept.
The basis of the 360c concept is a fully autonomous, pure electric car without the need of a human driver. The company even wants to omit the steering wheel and the combustion engine from the 360c concept. With this innovation, the Swedish carmaker aims to transform the traditional two and three-row seating into four potential configurations- a sleeping environment, mobile office, living room, and entertainment space – which all reimagine the way people could possibly travel. Moreover, Volvo even plans to ‘disrupt’ short distance air travel that comprises of distances of around 300km, with their new concept. The company says that the 360c concept represents a ‘potentially lucrative competitor to short-haul air travel’.
On the presentation of their new futuristic car Hakan Samuelsson, president and CEO, Volvo Cars said, “The business will change in the coming years and Volvo should lead that change of our industry. The autonomous drive will allow us to take the big next step in safety but also open up exciting new business models and allow consumers to spend time in the car doing what they want to do”.
Driverless cars and environment-friendly mobility is the talk of the day and it’s been a while since manufacturers have had this vision for the future. It looks like a lot of R&D is already being done to develop the field and along with the likes of Tesla and other German and Japenese automakers, Volvo has also shown willingness to join the party with the new 360c concept.
