Volvo ES90 electric sedan unveiled globally
The Volvo ES90 is the carmaker’s sixth electric car globally

The Volvo ES90 is equipped with 800-volt technology
Volvo has taken the wraps off the electric Volvo ES90 and it is the first Volvo car equipped with 800-volt technology, both for longer range and faster charging. The ES90 is also the sixth fully-electric model in Volvo’s global model line-up, after models such as the EX90, EM90, EX40, EC40 and EX30. Continue to read on to know more about the Volvo ES90 EV.
Volvo ES90 design
The ES90 carries forward the signature Volvo design language which includes elements like the Thor’s Hammer headlight design. The entire car itself has a familial resemblance to the Volvo S90 sedan, and the rear of the ES90 gets C-shaped LED tail lamps. Customers can choose between 7 exterior colours and four alloy wheel options, which range in size from 20 to 20-inches.

Volvo ES90 interior
The inside of the ES90 is typically Volvo-like, and the wheelbase of 3.1-metres should mean plenty of legroom for the second-row passengers. The cabin also gets six interior ambient light schemes and a panoramic roof with UV protection of up to 99 per cent. The electrochromic version also allows you to even adjust the transparency of the glass. In terms of equipment, you get a four-zone climate control with an air purifier and a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system featuring spatial audio from Dolby Atmos. The ES90 is also equipped with an infotainment system that is 5G-capable and has Google built-in, including services such as Google Maps and Google Assistant. The infotainment system gets a 14.5-inch centre screen display, while the driver gets a 9-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a HUD (head-up display).
Volvo ES90 platform, battery and powertrain
The ES90 is built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture, and like the EX90, the car is based on Volvo’s Superset tech stack. The Superset tech stack consists of one single set of hardware and software modules that will underpin all of Volvo’s upcoming electric cars. This also means that Volvo can keep rolling out updates for the performance and safety of the vehicle throughout its lifecycle via OTA updates. In terms of the powertrain, Volvo hasn’t exactly revealed the specs but they have mentioned that the ES90 will be based on a 800-volt technology to help faster charging, better performance and more efficiency. Volvo claims that the ES90 can add 300km of range in just 10 minutes of charging at a 350kW fast charging station, along with a driving range of up to 700km as per the WLTP testing cycle.

The ES90 is the sixth EV in Volvo's global model lineup
The ES90 is now available for order globally in select global markets, with additional markets to be added by 2026. That said, it is not yet confirmed whether this electric car would be making its way to India anytime soon.
