We test drove the Volkswagen T-Roc recently and now the Wolfsburg-based company has showcased the top-spec T-Roc R ahead of the International Geneva Motor Show 2019. The T-Roc is the first compact SUV from Volkswagen, with underpinnings of the Audi Q2. The near-production concept draws 290bhp and 400Nm.

What makes the Volkswagen T-Roc R special?

Developed by Volkswagen R, the T-Roc R boasts of some impressive power figures. The car packs a four-cylinder, 2-litre engine with all-wheel drive and a 7-gear dual-clutch DSG gearbox as standard. The Volkswagen T-Roc R can do a nought to 100kmph sprint in 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph. The car gets a special race mode that gives the driver a sporty driving experience. For getting optimal traction without compromising on available torque, the car gets launch control. Other electronic aids include electronic stability control as standard.

Visually the car gets some aesthetic advantages over the standard T-Roc. The bumper, for example,  is specifically designed for the T-Roc R so is the double-ended exhaust on both the sides. While the company offers 18-inch wheels as standard, there’s an option for 19-inchers as well. Other changes include matt chrome-finished mirror caps, a roof spoiler. On the inside, the steering wheel gets special leather treatment with paddle levers sporting the “R” logo. The interiors get white ambient lighting and the “R” badging is generously plastered all over.

While there is no official word on the India debut of the T-Roc, we expect the car to hit our shores by next year. However, it is highly unlikely that the T-Roc R version will make it to India. But you never know, we can have a limited run like the Polo GTI.
