Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed the first sketches and designs for the new California 6.1. The sketches indicate a redesigned front end in the form of a new grille design and headlamps. The California 6.1 will receive an integrated eSIM allowing for a host of connectivity and online services.
The new camper will be powered by two-litre turbodiesel engines and will have up to 196bhp. Other engines and technical specifications have not been revealed yet. What has been revealed though is that the van will have an electromechanical power steering and assistance systems like lane assist, side protection and trailer assist which should make it easier to manoeuvre when a trailer is attached to it.
The camper also receives a redesigned dashboard and customers can now opt for a digital instrument console. And courtesy of the addition of the integrated eSIM, the California 6.1 will feature online infotainment systems. The camper will also have an updated interior which should ‘enhance comfort’ as VW puts it.
The California 6.1 will make its global premiere at the Caravan-Salon in Düsseldorf which will be held at the end of August.
