The wraps are off with TVS Motor Company launching the new Apache RTR 160 4v starting at ₹81,490, ex-showroom, Delhi for the carburetted entry-level version with a front disc. There are two more variants, a range topping one with closed-loop electronic fuel injection and front and rear disc brakes at ₹89,990 and a middle order carbureted bike with a twin disc set up at ₹84,490. All prices being ex-showroom, Delhi.
The new Apache RTR 160 4v is powered by a brand new 159.7cc air-cooled single cylinder motor with oil cooler and four valves. In EFI form it makes 16.8bhp while in carb form it makes 16.5bhp. Peak torque in both cases is 14.8Nm. TVS claims a top speed of 114 and 113kmph for the EFI and carb variants, with the latter posting a marginally quicker 0-60kmph run in 4.73 seconds compared to the 4.8 seconds of the EFI variant.
The double cradle frame is carried over from the RTR 200 4V but TVS claims to have made it even stiffer, with ‘Synchro stiff’ frame design inputs. Showa takes care of the suspension duties, both at the front and the rear. The rear monoshock is adjustable for preload. You get 33mm forks on the RTR 160 4V while the RTR 200 4V gets 37mm ones. The base variant gets a thinner 110 section rear tyre as compared to the 130 section rubber on the other two variants. Stock tyres are made by TVS while the international markets also get an option of off-road rubber. The top two variants have the same tyre size as that of the RTR 200 4V. So slapping on Pirelli Angels won’t be an issue at all, although they’re not offered as option to the customer.
“In over 10 years of its existence, the TVS Apache RTR series has created phenomenal customer delight. The new Apache RTR 160 4v is an exciting addition to the TVS Apache RTR series,” said K N Radhakrishnan, president and CEO, TVS Motor Company at the launch.
