Skoda Auto India has launched a more luxurious and tech heavy variant of their Kodiaq SUV. It will now get the Laurin & Klement treatment and will set you back by Rs 35.99 lakh, ex-showroom, India.
The existing variant is already well equipped and the new one packs even more. It features a 360-degree surround area view with four wide angle cameras that display the immediate area surrounding the car. There’s also a virtual cockpit, which is essentially a customizable digital instrument panel that shows vital driving data and navigation information. The SUV also has hands-free parking, door edge protection and digital voice enhancement.
On the design front the Kodiaq Laurin & Klement has a distinctive chrome grille and the front is characterized by LED headlights that have illuminated eyelashes. The Laurin & Klement signature badge sits above the front fenders and there are special details and accents on the inside as well.
There’s an eight-inch capacitive touch display that has the SmartLink+ all-in-one technology. It integrates SmartGate, alongside Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. The Canton Sound system features 10 speakers, including subwoofer, and has a power output of 575 watts. There’s also the ŠKODA Media Command App, which helps occupants control functions like radio, music, and navigation from the rear seat.
Under the hood, the Kodiaq Laurin & Klement remains unchanged. It’s powered by a 2.0-litre TDI that makes 147.5bhp and 350Nm of torque. It’s available only in an all-wheel drive and automatic transmission variant.
Safety too seems uncompromised as the SUV comes with a standard dual front, side and curtain airbags and driver knee airbag, which remains the segment benchmark. Moreover, the car is equipped with iBuzz Fatigue Alert which detects signs of fatigue in the driver and prompts the driver to take a break. In addition, a host of security equipment and safety support functions include AFS (Adaptive Front light System), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), MBA (Mechanical Brake Assist), MKB (Multi Collision Brake), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist), ASR (Anti Slip Regulation), and EDS (Electronic Differential Lock).
Laurin and Klement was once one of the largest car manufacturers in Austria, Hungary and Czech Republic and was later acquired by Skoda Auto and today the name is used by Skoda to distinguish their special variants. This variant costs more than a lakh over the standard Kodiaq, which starts at Rs 3.83 lakh.
