Porsche has unveiled the new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, three years after the first Cayman GT4 Clubsport premiered.  Featuring a 3.8-litre flat-six engine churning 419bhp coupled with 425Nm of peak twist, the car tips the scales at 1,320kg! That’s 40 ponies more than the predecessor. So how did Porsche achieve this?

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first production race car to flaunt body parts made of natural-fibre composite material. Sourced mainly from agricultural by-products like flax or hemp fibres, the doors and the rear wings demonstrate properties similar to carbonfiber.

Proud of the company’s achievement, Porsche’s head of motorsport Fritz Enzinger commented, “The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport possesses significantly more racing genes than its successful predecessor. The power of the engine has increased considerably. At the same time, we were able to increase the downforce and the cockpit is now even better suited to drivers’ needs. I’m confident that we can build on the excellent sales figures of the predecessor, of which we have delivered 421 cars.”

This near-standard race car from Porsche is offered in two variants- the “Trackday” model for amateur racing enthusiasts and the aggressive “Competition” variant for some serious track racing. The “Trackday” version features a fixed shock absorber setup. The car gets ABS, ESC and traction control which can be turned off for some serious action. Armed with a hand-held fire extinguisher, a rescue hatch in the roof and an 80-litre FT3 safety fuel cell, this car is all set for some tarmac-shattering action.

The serious “Competition” version, gets three-stage adjustable suspension with a brake balance system that adjusts the balance bias between the front and rear axles. With an integrated air jack system and a 115-litre safety fuel tank, the car is ready for long-distance competitions. Boasting a quick-release steering wheel straight out of 911 GTR 3 and an automatic fire extinguishing system, the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport “Competition” is a complete pro package.

Both these non-road-homologated versions are available immediately to order and shall be delivered from February across the globe.
