Mercedes-Benz aren’t one to rest on their laurels. With the GLA launched just recently, they already have their next weapon in line. The Maybach GLS 600 is set to reach Indian shores as early as next week. This will be Maybach’s second product in India after the S-Class sedan, and will also be the company’s flagship luxury SUV.
The exterior of the GLS 600 resembles the standard GLS, but it does get some upgrades to differentiate it from its lesser sibling. It gets the huge chrome grille with vertical slats that looks typically Maybach, plus oodles of chrome on the bumper as well. It gets 22-inch wheels, electrically-operated running boards and headlamps with Muiltibeam LED technology as standard.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 gets a four-litre V8 engine producing a power output of 550bhp and 730Nm of torque, with a 48-volt mild hybrid system paired to it. This engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and it also gets the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. According to Mercedes, the Maybach GLS 600 will demolish a 0-100 run in just 4.9 seconds and it has a claimed top speed of 250kmph.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 gets Napa leather upholstery all around the cabin as standard, along with 64-colour ambient lighting, panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof with opaque roller blinds, electrically-operated rear window blinds, climatised recliner seats with an in-built massage feature, entertainment screens for rear passengers, a Burmester surround sound system, and temperature-controlled cup holders. Mercedes will also provide customers with a refrigerator on special request, built in the fixed centre console that extends all the way to the rear, and also comes equipped with silver champagne flutes, and folding tables.
Although the Maybach S-Class is locally produced in India, we expect the GLS to come via the CBU route. The GLS is expected to arrive in India next week, and is most likely to be priced north of Rs 2 crore. It will compete against other luxury SUVs like the Range Rover and the Bentley Bentayga.
