Mercedes-Benz India goes electric with the EQC SUV
Mercedes-Benz India has just launched its all electric brand called EQ , To launch this all electric brand they have showcased their electric SUV called the EQC . Mercedes starts off the year with a bang with this being the first electric vehicle that Mercedes offers India current lineup of vehicles in India. A new campaign has been created specially for this initiative for electric mobility with the tagline “Restless for tomorrow” that will be used across Mercedes Benz creatives and advertisement campaigns all throughout 2020.
Mercedes Benz showcased the all new electric car at its Chakan plant near Pune, where they outlined plans to tackle the electric market place. Martin Schwenk Head of Mercedes-Benz India was on hand to talk about the company’s progress and how they tackled the slowdown in the automotive sector with Mercedes-Benz recording its best sales numbers yet in a financial year. He also elaborated about the 2020 sustainability plan for the production facility that is powered by 4000 solar panels and will it will help the factory reduce CO2 emissions by 2600 tonnes and produce a power output of 1.6 MW per year. All of these steps have been taken in line with Mercedes Benz is global strategy of becoming a carbon neutral manufacturer. Santosh Iyer Marketing VP Sales and Marketing was there to explain the new electric offering from Mercedes Benz in detail and said that “EQ customers are two steps ahead of other” along with that he will establish an EQ community to connect with potential buyers and host EQ nights with the first one being planned on the sidelines of the upcoming AutoExpo in Delhi.
Now coming to the electric EQC SUV that Mercedes have launched last year internationally now make it way to our shores. Mercedes for India will offer the EQC in a special 1886 edition pack and will only be available in one metallic high-tech silver shade. The EQC sits on a specially developed platform for electric cars that Mercedes has developed with two electric motors that drive all four wheels. The electric motors have a total power output of 407 bhp and 765 NM of torque. The power for all these motors is provided by an 80 kW lithium iron battery pack that has a claimed range of 400 km. It also has a 0-100Kmph time of 5.1 seconds that is quick for an SUV of this size.
Design wise the EQC has a very prominent Mercedes-Benz minimalist design language that Gordon Wagner and his team created, at the same time they have also managed to create a unique identity for this electric car with subtle touches. The grille itself features a black background with LED lines that flow into it to highlight the Mercedes logo in the center and it tapers off into the headlight cluster at the end.One glance from the side it looks quite like a traditional SUV or a crossover more along the lines of its other sibling the GLC. The interiors feel quite familiar to the the other Mercedes SUVs and features the latest generation MBUX to assist drivers. Mercedes has announced that the car will be offered for sale only in April and prices for it are expected to be above 1 crore.
