Mercedes-Benz India has finally launched the all-new E 63 S AMG in India with a sticker price of Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom). This makes it expensive than the BMW M5 (direct rival) by Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). Let’s talk numbers first as it is an AMG. The E 63 S AMG is powered by the same 4-litre bi-turbo V8 that does duty on the borderline supercar, AMG GT R, the E 63S AMG makes a staggering 604bhp and 850. 0-100? Just 3.4 seconds, making it quicker than the GT R by full 0.2 seconds! However, to put all that power down, the E 63 S AMG comes with All wheel drive (AWD) as standard but you can always put it in ‘Drift Mode’ which switches off the ESP and sends power only to the rear wheels, for maximum fun. The engine is mated to a 9-speed multi-clutch auto ‘box.

In terms of cosmetics, there isn’t much to differentiate the E 63 S AMG from its non-AMG siblings. You get a lip spoiler and quad exhausts at the back. At the front, there’s a redesigned bumper integrated with a single slat grille, larger non-mesh based intakes and that’s about it. You also get 20-inch wheels accompanied by larger wheel arches. The super saloon segment is getting hotter than ever as we await the 2018 Audi RS 7 to launch here in India. The German trio of BMW M5, Audi RS 7 and now the Mercedes-Benz E 63 S AMG make power in the excess of 600 horses and are evenly matched on the pricing front as well (check). We have already driven both, the M5 and the E 63 S AMG and check out the Jan issue and May issue respectively to know all about them.
