The Mahindra XUV700 — make sure to pronounce it ‘seven double O’ — is set to be the flagship of Mahindra’s SUV lineup. Previously known as the W601 internally, the XUV700 will launch in India in the second quarter of FY2022 (sometime in the second half of 2021) to take on the likes of the Tata Safari and the Hyundai Alcazar. The XUV700 will be offered with an option of manual and automatic transmissions, as well and will be manufactured in the Chakan facility near Pune, Maharashtra.

What we know about the XUV700

When launched, the XUV700 is expected to pack a lot of kit — Mahindra’s even calling it sci-fi! Expect to see a large touchscreen infotainment system, perhaps even a digital instrument cluster and of course, the usual additions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As other Mahindra cars, the XUV700 is also expected to keep the safety paramount and we won’t be surprised with a great crash test result, considering the XUV300 bagged a full five stars.

Veejay Nakra, CEO – Automotive Division, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “The XUV700, one of the most awaited offerings from Mahindra is sure to hit the sweet spot with customers. Built on the new W601 platform, XUV700 marks the beginning of the next generation of sophisticated and authentic Mahindra SUVs which will offer an adrenaline rush like never before.”

Adding to this, R Velusamy, Chief of Global Product Development, Mahindra and Mahindra Limited said, “A young, passionate team with an obsession for excellence has created the All New XUV700. The XUV portfolio has always stood for creating disruptions and setting new benchmarks with models such as the XUV500 and the XUV300. The XUV700 is built on an all new global SUV platform W601, with expert partners across the world and will boast of first-in-segment technologies and features.”

What we don’t know about the XUV700

As of now, details about the XUV700 are scarce. Will it be the new flagship for the brand or will it sit below the Alturas G4? Is the new W601 platform future-ready for electrification? These and many more questions are expected to be answered closer to its launch. Meanwhile, the next-gen Scorpio and the XUV500 are also in the pipeline so expect a lot of SUV action from Mahindra in the foreseeable future.
