Land Rover India is currently conducting a series of events across the country called the Land Rover Experience Tour, where customers and prospective customers of the brand can drive Land Rovers off-road and get a sense of what these SUVs are truly capable off. Most Land Rover customers use their vehicles on regular roads itself and this experience allows them to explore the complete capabilities of their vehicles. Land Rover invites these people to specially designed off-road tracks, and provides them with a fleet of SUVs to take out on to the trail.

Right at the core of the programme, is understanding and making use of Land Rovers Terrain Response System. The Terrain Response system adjusts how the car makes its power, how it long it holds gears, how the centre diff-lock behaves and how intrusive the ABS is. The two cars that can be experienced at the drive are the Evoque and the Discovery Sport in the TD4, 148bhp spec. The Terrain Response System in these cars allow you to switch between three modes — the first being Grass/ Gravel/ Snow, Mud, the second being Mud and Ruts and the third being Sand. We were invited to be a part of the experience that took place at Aamby Valley The track layed out at 19 Degree North in was rocky, muddy and included a river crossing. The fact that it was raining rather heavily didn’t help.

However, the cars took it on everything in their paths and came out unscathed. The rain didn’t make things easy, with the track becoming slushier and slushier over time. The river crossing was particularly tricky with large rocks, but was helpful in understanding what approach, departure and ramp-over angles mean. Each driver had an experienced instructor from Cougar Motorsport guiding them through the entire exercise, teaching them the basics of off-roading and explaining how the electronics behave in different situations.

The Land Rover Experience Tour is taking place in Aamby Valley from the 24th to the 26th of June. The Tour has already been to Kochi, Bangalore and Hyderabad and will head to cities in North India soon.
