The much-awaited announcement from the World Car Of The Year awards has just come out. These announcements were scheduled to be delivered at the New York Auto Show, but due to the looming COVID19 pandemic crisis, all the results were announced via livestream over social media platforms. Top honours went to the Kia Telluride that received the 2020 World Car Of The Year. The Telluride has been a hit with the critics, getting a lot of positive press coverage since its launch and it also highlighted the fact that the decision to take on the big full-sized American SUVs has proven to be a good move by the Korean manufacturer.
The World Car committee also announced the awards for the Luxury and Performance Car Of The Year that went to the Porsche Taycan that beat out its siblings the Boxster 718 and the 911. The Taycan also excelled in the luxury category where it beat out the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric car. Another announcement from the account was the Kia Soul EV that won in the World Urban Car Of The Year category that beat its rivals the Mini Cooper SE and the Volkswagen T-Cross. In addition to that, the Mazda 3 was given the World Car Design Of The Year.
The World Car Of The Year team consists of 86 members from 24 countries and it is an independent organisation not tied to any of the media publications. There are quite a few Indian representatives on this committee that includes the likes of Renuka Kripalani, Siddharth Vinayak Patankar and Hani Mustafa just to name a few. Now we will just have to wait and see if Kia Motors India decides to launch the Telluride in India. After all, its other premium offering the Carnival has been a good sales success and the brand can as well try to replicate that with this premium SUV.
