Not so long ago, our man Aninda Sardar, drove this Korean beauty in Delhi and was mighty impressed. And not just Aninda, the car has also pleased our colleagues in the UK. The Kia Stinger GT won the ‘Sports Saloon of the Year’ in the evo Car of the Year awards. Conceived twenty years ago, the award sees six judges driving the competing cars back-to-back to award the category winners.
Commenting on the Stinger’s victory, Stuart Gallagher, editor at evo magazine (UK) stated, “The combination of grunt, just enough grip and a long wheelbase deliver approachable, old-school rear-wheel-drive thrills. It engages and entertains more than the competition and stands out for not being the default choice. Yet what’s really exciting is that this is Kia’s first attempt at cracking the quick saloon formula, so it’s only going to get better.”
The Stinger GT is the Korean brand’s first grand tourer. Sporting a 3.3 litre twin-turbo V6 engine packing 370 ponies and 510Nm and with a claimed 0-100kmph mark hit in 4.9 seconds, the car means business.
On the Stinger’s victory, Paul Philpott, CEO and president of Kia Motors UK Ltd said: “We are delighted that the Stinger has won yet another award. evo is a true enthusiasts magazine with particularly high standards in terms of acknowledging high performance vehicles – so to win this award is particularly gratifying. The Stinger is an important car for Kia as it shows the continuing growth of the brand and we hope this success will continue into 2019.”
