California based Rezvani Motors makes bizarre modifications to stock cars. In 2015, the carmaker rolled out the Rezvani Beast, a partly 3D printed supercar based on the Ariel Atom. In 2017, the company unveiled arguably the wildest vehicle on the planet, the Tank X. Rezvani took the Jeep Wrangler, stripped it apart from the outside and built its skin out of military grade materials, dumping everything except the Wrangler's frame. It is the world’s toughest military grade vehicle built for the road that starts at USD 2.59 lakh (Rs 1.95 crore, excluding Indian taxes). The brand itself describes the Tank X as an ‘urban tactical vehicle’. Here are some facts that justify this description.
The Tank X is equipped with one of the highest grades of armour for the body and glass area. The hardened iron and steel body and dense poly-carbonate glass with foam can withstand multiple rounds from high caliber weapons. What if the enemy targets the radiator or the fuel tank? Well, the battery, fuel tank, and radiator are all wrapped in Kevlar, a synthetic fibre of high tensile strength used to reinforce rubber. The under belly too is fully protected with high grade armour.
The Tank X uses a smoke screen that releases dense smoke at the press of a button to dissuade the enemy. It even gets military grade run flat tyres. This is basically a solid tyre within a tyre providing the capability of covering long distances at high speeds on damaged tyres. There are also powerful blinding lights that turn night into day and blind trackers at night. And lastly, the door handles can be electrified at the touch of a button to shock the intruder. Literally.
Cars nowadays are equipped with suite of sophisticated electronics. An electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) strike can create surges of current inside electronics and destroy the circuits and chips. Common sources of EMP radiation include nuclear explosion or lightning strikes. EMP shields provide surge protection by disabling the electrical systems prior to an attack. The EMP shield in the Tank X uses radioactively charged gases to shed strikes of electricity in 500 trillionths of a second.
Another highly sophisticated feature borrowed directly from the military is FLIR thermal night vision. In the US military dictionary, FLIR stands for Forward Looking Infrared Radar that detects thermal energy or heat. The system uses onboard analytics, sensors and radar to classify human or vehicular intrusions by detecting differences in temperature. The only downside of this system is that it cannot detect anything that’s submerged in water.
What is the use of all this fancy technology if the Tank X cannot move around quickly? Well, Rezvani has left no stone unturned and the Tank X can be had with three extremely powerful engines. The standard variant comes with a 3.6-litre V6 engine. If you crave for more power, the Tank X can be had with a 500hp 6.4-litre V8 from Dodge’s SRT series. And if 500hp isn’t enough, you can go bonkers and equip the Tank X with the 1000hp 6.2-litre V8 from the Dodge Demon.
