Citroen C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid to be revealed at 2020 Brussels Motor Show
The 98th Brussels Motor Show is set to take place between January 10-19. At the event, Citroen is all set to unveil their technological flagship, the C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid. The unveil is a stepping stone into the hybrid-electric era for Citroen as the core focus for automobiles shifts towards producing low-emission vehicles.
The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid gets an 80kW electric motor mounted on the front axle that’s paired to a 13.2kWh lithium-ion-battery, providing a pure electric range of 50km (WLTP cycle). The 107bhp electric motor is paired to a 1.6-litre petrol engine that makes 178bhp and together, they produce 222bhp and 320Nm of torque with an 8-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the front wheels.
The C5 Aircross Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid from the brand’s ‘Core Model Strategy’ which aims to have a portfolio of 80 per cent electrified vehicles by 2023, followed by 100 per cent by 2025. Following that, the brand will offer one new electrified vehicle annually. With India too moving towards electrification, Citroen might offer a hybrid car in India in the future. The C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid is produced in France, at the Rennes – La Janais plant, alongside the internal combustion versions that have already sold over one lakh units.
However, the C5 Aircross is set to be their first offering in India and it will most likely be powered by a choice of petrol and/or diesel engines. It’s unlikely for Group PSA to bring in this particular plug-in-hybrid to India so soon.
