Earlier this month, Groupe PSA announced their plan to launch the Citroen brand in India next year, starting with the C5 Aircross SUV. When launched, the C5 Aircross should have the likes of Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and the Mahindra XUV500 in its crosshairs. The Citroen flagship has scored a 4 star safety rating in the Euro NCAP.

Citroen C5 Aircross’ Euro NCAP score

The Euro NCAP is more stringent than the Global NCAP. Whereas the Global NCAP takes into account only the driver + passenger safety and child safety, The Euro NCAP takes the driver + passenger safety, child safety, vulnerability to road users and driver assist features. This might translate to a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP when launched in India.

The Citroen C5 Aircross was 33.4 points out of 38 for adult occupancy. It also scored 42.6 out of 49 for child occupants, 27.9 out of 48 for pedestrian safety and 9.8 out of 13 for its safety assist systems. While the Euro NCAP panel labeled everything as “good”, they tagged the Autonomous Emergency Braking system as “marginal”.

The Citroen C5 Aircoss is based on the company’s PSA EMP2 platform. This is also present in the DS 7 Crossback, Opel Grandland X and Peugeot 4008 and 5008 models. The C5 Aircross will possibly be powered by 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines. The power produced will range from 130 bhp to 180 bhp.
