Czech car giant Skoda Auto has released exterior and interior design sketches of its upcoming all-new car. Dubbed the 'Elroq', it's a new electric compact SUV which will debut the brand's new design language. The Elroq will get four variants and the option of three battery packs. On the inside, it will have an eco-friendly interior and a minimal layout. Here's everything we know so far about the Elroq. Here's more.

Skoda Elroq exterior

The Elroq will be the first production model to adopt Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language which includes a 'Tech-Deck' face with a flat, wide, element replacing the brand's traditional grille. It will also get Skoda brand lettering replacing the brand's famed winged arrow logo at the front and rear. But worry not, it's not like the symbol has been tossed out for the window completely, it will make an appearance, in 2D avatar, on the alloy wheels.

The Elroq will have a split light setup upfront, with the main headlamps recessed in the front bumper and LED DRLs on top. It will get Matrix-LED headlights and LED tail lights. To give it a bit of a pizzazz, Skoda will dress the Elroq with dark chrome elements here and there and it has confirmed an exclusive 'Timiano Green' colour for the compact SUV as well. The Elroq will also have sharp lines on the bonnet and a long waistline which will make its way all the way to the rear, into the wrap-around narrow C-shaped tail lights. At the rear, the Elroq will boast a spoiler and a prominent bumper with a faux grille.

Skoda Elroq Interior

The Elroq will be the first Skoda to bear the Skoda lettering new logo on its steering wheel. It will get a symmetrical dashboard with a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Elroq’s interior will deploy an array of sustainable materials including Recytitan—a material which is composed of 78 per cent Polyethylene Terephthalate and recycled clothing—and Technofil.

Technofil, on the other hand, is a material consisting of recycled fibres, made by recovering nylon waste such as fishing nets, fabric scraps from mills and carpets destined for landfill. Both Recytitan and Technofil will be featured on many parts of the interior such as the door panels, seat covers, dashboard, armrests and knee pads.

Skoda Elroq powertrain and batteries and charging

The Skoda Elroq will be available in four variants offering three battery sizes and even fast charging. The entry-level Elroq 50 will boast a 55kWh battery and a single-motor churning out 168bhp and powering the rear wheels only. Up next is the Elroq 50 with a 63kWh battery and a 201bhp output. The Elroq 85 gets the biggest battery rated at 82kWh albeit with a single-motor setup, being RWD, making 282bhp. But at the top sits the Elroq 85x, powered by the same 82kWh battery, with a dual-motor setup giving it AWD. As a result, with 295bhp, it's the most powerful of the lot too. The Elroq 50 and 60 variants will have a 160kmph top whack, while the two 85 models will be capped at 180kmph. All variants will support DC fast charging up to 175kW, with 10 to 80 per cent charging possible in under 28 minutes. Moreover, Skoda will also provide an optional 11kWh wall box home charger to Elroq buyers which can top the biggest smallest battery in 5.5 hours and the biggest battery in a smidge under 11 hours.

Skoda Elroq safety features

The Elroq will get the option of up to nine airbags, and many safety assistance systems like travel assist, front assist and crew protection assist. It will also feature remote parking which will allow you to park the Elroq using an app on your mobile phone, without the need to be sitting inside and it can also park itself in a pre-programmed location up to 50 metres away. How cool is that?

Klaus Zellmer, CEO, Skoda Auto says “Growing our electric portfolio into several attractive new segments is pivotal to our strategy of providing our customers with a wide choice of new models to choose from and to the continued success of Škoda Auto. The Elroq is a milestone in our BEV portfolio, the first in a coming line-up of six new fully electric models, building on the success of the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé. Even the first glimpse of its bold new Modern Solid design tells you that this car is something new, the perfect balance of size, interior space and electromobility for the city and beyond.”

The Skoda Elroq will be fully unveiled to the world in Autumn 2024 and it remains to be seen if it will make it to our shores. While the brand doesn't have an electric model in its India lineup yet, the Elroq will sell like hotcakes if it's priced attractively.
