The production-spec of the Citroen Basalt has officially been revealed. The Basalt is an SUV Coupe and is based on the brand’s C-cubed architecture. It has a completely different silhouette but features styling elements similar to the C3 and the C3 Aircross, and will likely share a powertrain with those cars as well.
The Citroen Basalt is an SUV Coupe with a sloping roofline and short overhangs. It gets wide fenders, square wheel arches and muscular proportions. The rear gets an integrated spoiler design, silver skid plate and Citroen's signature taillight design. The front — though Citroen hasn’t revealed an image yet of the production ready model – gets a clamshell bonnet, a silver skid plate and Citroen's signature X-Split DRLs with LED headlights. The colour clips attached near the rear window and the bonnet also give the car an elevated look. Options of a dual-tone scheme will also be available as seen on this car, with the black roof. There’s a new set of wheels, different from the ones we have already seen on the C3 and the C3 Aircross.
While further details are yet to be revealed, the Citroen Basalt will likely feature the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that does duties in the C3 as well. The mill churns out 108bhp and 190Nm and can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic 'box.
While we await further details of the Citroen Basalt, the only other SUV Coupe in the segment will be the Tata Curvv which is also launching in the first week of August. Depending on pricing, it could sit alongside or sit a segment under the Curvv.
