Basketball player Michael Jordan is known for owning some of the most desirable rides in the world, and the latest one to join his garage is an electric hypercar – more specifically, the Pininfarina Battista Targamerica. This car is a unique one-off, being the world’s first coach-built electric hypercar, and it packs in the performance credentials of its sibling, the hard-top version of the Pininfarina Battista. The Targamerica was commissioned at the 2023 Monterey Car Week, and the development of the coach-built car, from conception to delivery, took one year. The car was initially revealed at the Monterey Car Week in 2024, before being delivered to Michael Jordan.
When it comes to the design, the Battista Targamerica features a striking silver and blue colour scheme, while the body of the car has been re-engineered taking into the account that the car is now roofless. Many details of Battista Targamerica are inspired by one of the most famous one-off cars designed by Pininfarina – the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider, created for Gianni Agnelli to mark his 20 years as Chairman of Fiat. The rear underwing is hand-finished by an Automobili Pininfarina artisan, painstakingly painting Iconica Blu pinstripes the full width of the wing as a demonstration of the attention to detail. The exterior look is completed with one-off, ceramic-polished five-spoke alloy wheels with contrast black anodised aluminium centre caps. This is complemented by the brushed and anodised jewellery pack, with bespoke one-off door plates.
A unique feature inside the interior is its cigar holder and humidor, a completely customised element built directly into the cabin between the two seats, in the form of a bespoke aluminium and glass case. The case – which can hold up to three cigars – is back-lit and illuminated to match the corresponding colours of the five driving modes: Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa and Carattere. The Battista Targamerica is upholstered in supple tan leather, with a contrast black leather steering wheel and dashboard. The headrests are bespoke, featuring an embossed Automobili Pininfarina ‘F’ logo, alongside unique décor and design details specific to the owner. A bespoke tailored luggage set has also been specified, finished in the same tan leather as the upholstery and embossed with a Battista Targamerica silhouette.
The Battista Targamerica shares its performance credentials as Italy’s fastest road-legal car with the hard top Automobili Pininfarina Battista. This electrified hypercar is powered by its four independent electric motors combined with a 120kWh lithium-ion battery delivering 1874bhp (1900hp) of power and 2340Nm of torque. The Battista Targamerica can accelerate to 100kmph in less than two seconds (claimed) and has a claimed top speed of more than 300kmph.
