Mercedes-AMG introduces the 2020 GLC 43 SUV and Coupe
The 2020 GLC 43 AMG SUV and Coupe iterations have been introduced internationally. The updated models feature new design elements along with more power and the latest MBUX infotainment system. The GLC range goes up against the likes of the Audi SQ5, BMW X3 M, X4 M and the Porsche Macan S
Powering the Ah My God!
Both the SUV and the Coupe are equipped with identical engines and transmissions; 3-litre V6 bi-turbo that puts down 384bhp of power at 5500-6000rpm and 520Nm of torque at 2500-4500rpm. The same engine has been carried over from the predecessor but it now makes additional 23bhp. The V6 comes mated to a nine-speed torque convertor gearbox which transmits power to all wheels courtesy the rear-biased 4MATIC drive system. The power distribution ratio from front to rear is 31:69. Mercedes-AMG claim that both models can go from 0-100kmph in 4.9second and continue accelerating to a restricted top speed of 250kmph.
The 4MATIC system comes with five driving modes – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and a driver customisable ‘Individual’. The modes as the names suggest, modulate the power, suspension and steering response according to the situation.
Both the coupe as well as the SUV get air suspension as standard. You can choose between three available presets – Comfort, Sport and Sport+.
Connectivity on both models is handled by the latest MBUX infotainment system. The central console is a 10.25-inch touchscreen display while the instrument cluster too gets a 12.3-inch display.
Look and Feel:
Both the GLC43s get the ‘family’ AMG grille along with redesigned lights, both at the front and rear. The oval quad exhaust pipes distinguish the GLC 43 from the GLC 63s rectangular quad pipes. The GLC 43s come with 19in wheels as standard but customers can choose from five rim options ranging from 19 to 21inch sizes.
Speaking about the new GLC 43 AMG’, Tobias Moers, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. Said, "The new GLC 43 4MATIC SUV and Coupé in their latest guises also feature the AMG-specific radiator grille, identifying them straight away as fully-fledged members of our diverse and highly successful SUV family. This mid-size performance SUV combines new, expressive design features with enhanced performance, the innovative MBUX infotainment system and absolute viability in everyday use. And, of course, its exceptional agility and sporty driving dynamics mean that we are able to meet our brand promise of "Driving Performance" in this segment, too"
Going by Mercedes-Benz India’s strategy, the new AMGs are expected to launch in India sooner or later.
