Mahindra has unveiled two new electric SUVs today – the BE 6e and the Mahindra XEV 9e. The two electric SUVs are based on Mahindra’s INGLO Electric Origin architecture, and here’s everything you need to know about the XEV 9e electric SUV for now.

The XEV 9e is based on the Mahindra’s INGLO Electric Origin architecture, and the architecture is a skateboard architecture, which gets intelligent semi-active dampers, iLink front suspension and 5-link independent suspension for the rear, a brake by wire system, the advanced LFP battery and a power steering with a variable geometry that enables a 10-metre turning circle and ease of driving.

When it comes to the design, the XEV gets Bi-LED headlamps with DRLs and LED tail lamps. 19-inch wheels are available as standard, though higher-end variants get 20-inch wheels. The front also gets Mahindra’s new illuminated logo. In terms of the dimensions, both the BE 6e and the XEV share the same platform, hence the same 2775mm wheelbase. While we’re not offering any opinions on the design, the XEV is styled unlike any other product to be introduced from the Mahindra stable. The overall ground clearance of the XEV is 207mm, while the vehicle length is 4789mm. The XEV also claims to offer 1617-litre of front cabin space – claimed to be the best in segment – while headroom is 1006mm, with the legroom being 1055mm and the shoulder room being 1522mm. The XEV also gets a frunk with a capacity of 150-litre, while the boot gets a capacity of 663-litre.

The insides of the XEV are dominated by a large 43.3-inch slab of digital real estate, which consists of three individual displays – one for the passenger, one for the infotainment and one for the driver’s digital cluster. All this tech is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, and you get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the XEV. The XEV also gets MAIA – Mahindra Advanced Intelligence Architecture which runs all the technologies of the cabin along with the Qualcomm chipset.

You also get pre-installed OTT, social media, news and shopping apps on the XEV, along with connected car features such as cabin pre-cooling. Higher-end variants will also get a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos and the XEV also gets a infinity glass roof with 16 million hues, working in tandem with the ambient lighting. The XEV also gets ADAS Level 2+ with 5 radars. You also get 7 airbags on the top-spec variants for safety while 6 airbags are standard. Also on offer is an automatic park feature that can be used from within the XEV or even from outside it, to automatically park the vehicle. Most of the features mentioned here will be available from the base variants as standard, with additional features to be revealed closer to the actual launch of the vehicle.

Mahindra XEV 9e battery and powertrain

The XEV comes with a 59kWh and a 79kWh LFP battery, and Mahindra revealed the range figures of the latter – being 656km (ARAI certified, MIDC phase 1+2) or 533km as per the WLTP cycle. Mahindra claims a 500+km real world range for the 79kWh battery pack with the AC switched on. The battery is also capable of being charged from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger. Both batteries get a lifetime warranty.

The XEV is powered by a single motor mounted on the rear axle and the 59kWh battery pack gets 228bhp of power, while the 79kWh battery pack variants produce 282bhp of peak power. Acceleration from 0 to 100kmph comes up in 6.8 seconds for the larger battery pack. You get three driving modes – Everyday, Range and Race, along with a boost mode, to offer additional power on tap. And to ensure the XEV stops on a dime, you get a brake by wire system to ensure faster and safer stops.

Prices for the XEV 9e start from ₹21.9 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level variant

The introductory ex-showroom price of the XEV has been revealed, which is ₹21.9 lakh – and this price is of the entry-level Pack One variant with the 59kWh battery pack. The rest of the variant prices are yet to be revealed, and Mahindra states that the XEV 9e will go to market by January 2025, with deliveries to start from the end of February to March 2025.
