The Kia Syros is Kia’s sub-4m compact SUV, and it is packed with features while getting a funky design. The Syros is named after a Greek island, here’s everything you need to know about the compact SUV.

Kia Syros design

The design of the Kia Syros is busy to say the least, and it is probably the first compact SUV with ‘tall boy’ styling. At the front you get vertical headlamps with vertical LED DRLs, integrated into the generous amounts of side cladding that are present on the Syros. The top-spec Syros gets 17-inch alloy wheels and as you move to the side, you will notice that Syros also gets flush door handles which we have seen before on more expensive cars. Move to the rear and the Syros gets L-shaped Starlamp LED tail lamps placed next to the rear windshield, and you also get a shark fin antenna and an integrated spoiler. Overall, the design of the Syros will certainly get people talking.

Steering wheel resembles that of the Kia EV6

Kia Syros interiors and features

On the inside, you get an all-new dashboard and a two-spoke steering that reminds you of the one in the much more expensive Kia EV6, and the Syros also gets 64 colour ambient lighting throughout the cabin. You get a 30-inch slab of digital real estate – comprising two screens for the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment screen, with physical switches below the screen.

Automatic climate control is also present. You also get a wireless charger, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The Kia Syros is also capable of receiving OTA updates. Also present is a 360-degree view camera. Kia claims the interiors are ‘lounge inspired’ and both the rows of seats get a ventilation function. You also get an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and Level 2 ADAS with 16 autonomous functions, along with a panoramic sunroof and rear AC vents. The rear seats can slide and recline for the passenger’s comfort, and get a 60:40 split for added practicality.

Kia Syros engine

Powering the Syros are two engines – 1-litre turbo-petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel with a VGT. The turbo petrol can be mated to a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual for the first time (earlier this engine could only be had with Kia’s iMT or a DCT). The petrol engine produces 118bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. The diesel engine on the other hand can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic and it produces 114bhp of power and 250Nm of torque.

The Syros will go up against compact SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the upcoming Skoda Kylaq
