Jaguar recently announced a complete rebrand of its brand identity, and the move has set a lot of tongues wagging, particularly on our social media. However, Jaguar has remained unfazed and the manifestation of that is the Type 00 design vision concept, which follows the brand’s new creative philosophy of ‘Exuberant Modernism’ and the ethos of ‘Copy Nothing.’ Read on to know more about the Jaguar Type 00 concept.

Flush surfaces and slim LED lights on the Type 00. Front grille gets the new Jaguar lettering

Let’s talk about that name first. The ‘Type’ prefix is a hark back to Jaguar’s earlier models like the Jaguar E-Type, while the first zero is a reference to zero tailpipe emissions. The second zero represents this concept’s status as car zero in Jaguar’s new lineage.

The Type 00 is designed like a fastback with a slim LED light signature and the face is upright, with flush surfaces and the Jaguar lettering placed in the centre of a blanked-out grille. You get a long bonnet and moving to the sides of the Type 00, you can observe that it gets 23-inch alloy wheels. The sides also get the Jaguar ‘leaper’ laser-etched into hand-finished brass ingots on each side of the car. These ingots deploy to reveal rear-facing cameras that – like the charging ports and front air intakes – remain hidden, until needed. You also get a glazed glass roof.

The silhouette is quite dramatic, and as you move to the rear, you can observe that the Type 00 gets a raked roofline that merges into the glassless tailgate. You also get what Jaguar calls ‘Strikethrough’ graphics, which hide the full-width tail lights of the Type 00. The rear also gets what Jaguar calls a pantograph tailgate.

The overall design, particularly the silhouette bears a faint resemblance to the Jaguar E-Type, but what is definitely not very Jaguar-like are the loud colours that the Type 00 is presented in – Satin Rhodon Rose (also referred to as Miami Pink) and Inception Silver Blue (also dubbed as London Blue).

Central brass spine splits the cabin neatly into a two-seater layout

Open the Type 00’s butterfly doors and a modernist interior design is revealed. There are three hand-finished brass lines which run the length of the interior, and a central 3.2-metre long brass spine splits the floating instrument panels (which neatly retract into the dashboard) and the cabin neatly into two, making the Type 00 into a strict two-seater.

Mainly three materials are used in the interior – brass, travertine stone and textiles. The stone functions as a plinth, supporting the floating seats and the central spine, while a wool blend envelops the seats, the sound bar and the flooring. You also get a Clearsight display replacing the traditional rear view mirror.

Jaguar Type 00 powertrain

Interestingly, the new Jaguar ‘leaper’ is said to replace the earlier ‘growler’ logo that was present on the ICE-powered models, as the forthcoming Jaguars won’t make noise anymore – thanks to their electric powertrain. The Type 00’s design is based on the JEA – Jaguar Electrical Architecture, and Jaguar has revealed that its first new-generation production car will be an electric four-door GT, with a driving range target of up to 770km (WLTP) on a single charge, with rapid charging capability adding up to 321km of range in as little as 15 minutes. The GT will be built in the UK and be revealed in late 2025.

Jaguar has also revealed that the brand will set up exclusive brand stores for clients around the world, and these stores will be complemented by a wider global network of luxury retailers. The first new brand store will be set up in Paris, and it should be interesting to see how these new generation Jaguars will stack up against rival luxury offerings, from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.
