Hyundai launches the Exter CNG, called the Hy-CNG, with prices starting from ₹8.5 lakh for the S trim. The CNG variant will be available in S, SX and Knight SX and costs ₹1 lakh over its respective petrol variants. The range-topping SX trim gets a sunroof, 8-inch infotainment display and automatic climate control.
The Hyundai Exter CNG’s design is similar to the petrol variant, except for the CNG badging.
The front gets LED DRLs and projector headlights, while the rear gets LED tail lamps. The difference is in the boot, because the CNG variant gets a small hump. To accommodate for a larger boot space, the CNG tanks are laid out in a dual-tank setup instead of a large singular one.
The Hyundai Exter CNG gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that pushes out 68bhp and 95Nm (14bhp and 19Nm lesser than the petrol), and can only be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The claimed fuel efficiency is 27.1kg/km. Comparatively, the 1.2-litre mill in the petrol variants make 82bhp and 114Nm, and can be paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The Hyundai Exter CNG’s cabin has been carried over from the petrol variants. The range-topping SX trim gets an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, sunroof, automatic climate control and a dashcam. All variants get standard six airbags, TPMS, ESC and hill-start assist control.
The Hyundai Exter CNG S is priced at ₹8.5 lakh, the SX is priced at ₹9.23 lakh and the Knight SX is priced at ₹9.38 lakh. The CNG variants are exactly ₹1 costlier over the respective CNG variants. It rivals the Tata Punch CNG which starts from ₹7.22 lakh. If the bodystyle of a compact SUV is not taken into comparison, then the Hyundai Exter CNG rivals the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG priced at ₹8.46 lakh and the Tata Altroz CNG which starts from ₹7.6 lakh.
