The Citroen Basalt has been launched in India at an introductory price of ₹7.99 lakh (valid on deliveries till October 31, 2024). It is based on the same CMP platform as the C3 and the C3 Aircross, and gets similar styling elements as well but gets a completely different silhouette. Customers can now book the Basalt for a booking amount of ₹11,001 and deliveries are set to begin in September, 2024.
The Citroen Basalt gets styling elements similar to the other Citroen SUVs on sale in India such as the C3 and the C3 Aircross. You get the double chevron logo up front, X-split LED DRLs, 16-inch wheels with squared off wheel arches and the signature LED tail lamp design of Citroen. It gets 180mm of ground clearance and a 2651mm wheelbase.
The Citroen Basalt’s cabin gets a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 7-inch instrument cluster with customisable modes. The rear seat passengers get a winged headrest for neck support and an adjustable thigh support. Other features include – automatic climate control, rear AC vents and a wireless charger. In terms of boot space, the Basalt has 470-litres of boot capacity. 6 airbags, Hill Hold Control, ESP, TPMS and keyless engine start is available as standard across the range.
The Citroen Basalt gets two engine options – a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that pushes out 108bhp and 190Nm, and a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that pushes out 81bhp and 115Nm. You get three gearbox options – torque converter automatic, 5-speed manual or a 6-speed manual. The less powerful 1.2-litre NA engine can only be optioned with the 5-speed manual gearbox. In terms of performance, 0-100kmph comes up in a claimed 9.95 seconds for the 1.2-litre turbo mill.
The Citroen Basalt’s prices start from ₹7.99 lakh. This is an introductory price and will only be applicable to cars that get delivered before October 31, 2024. The pricing for all the variants has not been disclosed yet. The Basalt does not have a direct rival but the closest in terms of design to the Basalt is the Tata Curvv. While the prices for the Tata Curvv’s ICE models have not been revealed yet, the Tata Curvv EV is priced at ₹17.49 lakh.
