Maruti Suzuki’s newly-unveiled Dzire has scored a 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP crash tests. The sedan scored five stars when it comes to adult occupant protection, and four stars when it comes to child occupant safety. This makes it the first Maruti Suzuki to achieve a five star Global NCAP safety rating.
The new Dzire was submitted by Maruti Suzuki to Global NCAP for voluntary testing, and the India-spec car scored 31.24 points out of a maximum 34 for adult occupant protection, along with 39.20 points out of a maximum 49 for child occupant safety. In terms of safety equipment, the new Dzire offers six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and pedestrian protection as standard.
Commenting on the occasion, David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “The new Dzire’s five star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result.” Ward added, “We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.”
The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a whole generation change from the earlier model, and it gets fresh styling and new interiors. In terms of the engine, the new Dzire is powered by the same 1.2-litre 3-cyl Z Series engine that we’ve already seen in the new Swift. We’ve driven the new Dzire and our first drive review of the sedan will be live on the evo India website soon. Stay tuned to this space for more. As for the pricing, Maruti Suzuki will be announcing prices for the new Dzire on November 11.
