Details of the 2024 Citroen Basalt SUV coupe have now been revealed by the French manufacturer. The Basalt is an SUV coupe that is based on the brand’s C-cubed architecture and features styling elements similar to the C3 and the C3 Aircross, while sharing drivetrains though it does pick up the ante on the equipment front.
The Citroen Basalt SUV coupe gets styling elements similar to the other Citroen SUVs on sale in India such as the C3 and the C3 Aircross. You get the double chevron logo up front and squared-off wheel arches which house the 16-inch wheels of the SUV coupe. The Basalt also gets LED projector headlamps and 3D light tail lamps. In terms of ground clearance, the Basalt gets 180mm of ground clearance.
The interior of the Basalt gets a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of space, the Basalt gets a 2651mm wheelbase and to aid the rear seat passengers, you get adjustable thigh support in the second row of seats. The rear seat passengers also get a winged headrest for neck support. In terms of equipment, the Basalt gets automatic climate control and rear AC vents along with a wireless charger for your smartphone. You also get a 7-inch digital cluster for the driver with customisable modes. In terms of boot space, the Basalt has 470-litres of boot capacity.
The Citroen Basalt features a 1.2-litre turbocharged and a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine from the C3 Aircross. Power stands at 108bhp along with 190 Nm of torque for the turbocharged engine, and it can be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of performance, 0-100kmph comes up in a claimed 9.95 seconds. The nat-asp engine makes 81bhp of power and 115Nm of torque and can only be had with the 5-speed manual ’box.
The suspension of the Basalt is claimed to offer best in class ride comfort and handling, but we can only confirm this claim after we have driven the SUV coupe. Citroen claims that the suspension offers higher damping at low and mid-speed velocity while offering lower damping at higher speeds, with lesser impact inside the cabin due to the unique suspension geometry.
Citroen hasn’t released prices for the Basalt SUV coupe yet, and in terms of rivals, we believe it could sit a segment below the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV coupe.
