Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that the second edition of GT Cup e-motorsport championship will be coming to India. Registrations for the championship begin on August 2, 2021. Given the way that the coronavirus has impacted our lives, the popularity of sim-racing and e-sports is growing understandably, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy racing from the safety of their own homes.

The first edition of the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup took place in August 2020. Given the popularity of the championship last year, participants can now compete using the PC platform as well (in the GR Excelerate Tournament), in addition to Playstation 4. Registrations begin from August 2-15 for the PC platform and from August 2-21 for Playstation 4 consoles. Participants will be driving the Toyota GR Yaris in the qualifying rounds, while racers will battle it out in the final race using a GR Supra. Winners participating from PC have a chance to win Playstation 4s, which they can use to compete in the national rounds of the TGR GT Cup. The top three winners in the national round stand to win a prize pool of Rs 2 lakh and a chance to represent India in the Asia cup for a prize pool of Rs 7 lakh.

Associate general manager of sales and strategic marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Wiseline Sigamani said, “It gives us immense pleasure to bring the exciting Toyota Gazoo Racing once again to fans particularly to the youth and motorsports fans in India.” Sigamani added,“The e-motorsports element is one of the key pillars of Toyota Gazoo Racing and this competition intends to deliver Toyota’s commitment to making it possible to experience the adventure of racing Toyota GR cars on iconic racing circuits. We aim to bring in more elements of the TGR to the country via other events and activities.”

It is a great time to be a motorsport enthusiast, especially with the accessibility that e-racing provides, bringing the race right into your living room. With the availability of slots being limited, racing enthusiasts might want to hurry up signing for this one!
