Tata Nexon EV unveiled, pre-bookings start at Rs 21,000
Tata Motors has just unveiled this electric compact SUV offering the Nexon EV. This marks a silent shift that Tata Motors has undertaken to offer more eco-friendly mobility solutions to the public in the form of electric vehicles. The Nexon EV will be the first electric car from Tata Motors that people can own on private plates as the previous electric offering from Tata was the Tigor EV that was just sold to the taxi and fleet operators. The Nexon EV looks to set a new benchmark for Tata in the electric vehicle marketplace.
Design & Tech
The Nexon EV has been given some cosmetic changes on the Design from by Pratap Bose and his team. They have made sure to give the Nexon EV a unique character and not make it look like a boring electric vehicle they have added a sporty central grille with new headlamps upfront that give it a sharper look. They also took inspiration from our national bird peacock to get a unique blue colour shade for the Nexon. Coming to the interiors of the car they are quite similar to the regular car with the addition of a drive mode selector knob. The infotainment system remains the same Harman unit that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Tata have introduced an app for the Nexon EV that allows you to control some features of the car like preset the Air-Conditioning to your desired temperature, set navigation routes, and vehicle tracking. This app will also let owners know where to charge their Nexon track the vehicle location and set up speed alerts for parents when their children use the car. The Nexon with this mobile app joins the rest of the smart internet connected cars that have hit out market over this past year.
Performance Time
The Nexon EV comes with a 127bhp permanent magnet AC motor that is powered by a 30.2kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. This Electric motor puts out 245Nm of torque that propels the Nexon EV from 0-100kmph in just 9.9 seconds making this one quick car from Tata Motors. The battery pack as a whole is IP67 rated, which means it is water and dust resistant. Coming to the range of this EV, Tata Motors claims +300km range per charge but will will have to wait and see till the ARAI official test numbers for range come out. The engineers at Tata have kept the end users in mind by adding a 15amp plug in option so you can plug the Nexon EV into any normal plug point. Also it gets all the other electric vehicle technology like regenerative braking, Smart Regen and a hill descent assist function will help this electric SUV off road cred.
You can pre-order or book your Nexon EV with a booking amount of ₹21,000/- . Tata is looking to price it between Rs 15 to Rs 17 lakhs. We will have to wait and see how this EV performs in the real world so stay tuned for a full detail review coming up soon.
