The much awaited all electric Range Rover has been teased by JLR and a waiting list has been opened for those who want to be amongst the first to be able to pre-order the vehicle. Prototype testing is underway and the full design will be revealed in due course.
Range Rover electric design
JLR has not revealed much of the Range Rover Electric’s design, but claims the EV will retain the lines of the ICE Range Rover. The Range Rover Electric gets the same vertical tail light as its ICE sibling and flush body-coloured door handles. In place of the fuel lid, it gets a charging port with LED strips to indicate its charge status. There are subtle EV specific changes like the alloy wheels getting an EV marked hubcap.
Range Rover electric specifications and details
The Range Rover electric has a 800-volt architecture for rapid battery charging on public networks. It is equipped with a unique active road noise cancellation software that separates the cabin from the outside. Range Rover claims that the electric SUV’s performance will be on par with the V8 Range Rover V8 and will be sold alongside the ICE, mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid variants. The prototype testing has begun for the Range Rover Electric in extreme temperatures to be able to withstand climatic, geographical disparities and even be able to wade through 850mm of water. JLR claims that more patents have been filed for the Range Rover Electric than any previous Range Rover.
The Range Rover Electric will compete with the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, but it would be interesting to see if it can offer the same Range Rover experience we know and love.
