Lamborghini has sold its 400th car in India. The Urus SUV has proved to be a huge hit in India, helping the Italian marque grow at a rapid pace in the country. While it was not surprising that the Urus would give a considerable boost to Lamborghini India’s numbers, the company had crossed the 300 unit milestone only in September of last year. 2021 was also the most successful year for Lamborghini in India, with 69 cars sold, and it looks like there’s no slowing the big bull down.

The 400th car sold by Lamborghini in India comes on the back of a record 86 per cent growth rate, notably riding the crest of a wave of post-lockdown demand in luxury/performance cars. Although there is encouraging growth in the segment, the super-luxury market (above 2 crores) is still in its infancy, says Sharad Agarwal, Head of Lamborghini India. In fact, Sharad confirmed to us that the Urus and the Huracan will get new variants this year to continue the momentum, in addition to a special edition dedicated to India.

Another aspect that customers seem to be attracted to across the market are experiences bundled within the ownership package. Lamborghini India has made the experience of owning a Lamborghini that much more enjoyable with Lamborghini Day, a chance for owners to meet other owners, network and enjoy their cars to their fullest potential. This year’s Lamborghini Day took place in Goa from March 25-27.

The Urus has no doubt been the catalyst for the phenomenal growth that Lamborghini has experienced in India, but the success of the Huracan is also conspicuous. You can visually see Huracans on the road as the traffic thins out in big cities. In fact, demand is so high that according to Sharad, there are now more orders than they have got slots, which means waiting periods have shot up to more than 12 months. It is evident that Lamborghini is doing well not just because India has a lot of Lamborghini fans (although it has a lot), but because it is making the right moves to prove it can deliver a good ownership experience.
