The A4 is Audi’s best-selling sedan globally and it is now set to return to the Indian market in its latest iteration. Audi has commenced production of the A4 at the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd. (SAVWIPL) plant in Aurangabad. The Audi A4 facelift features subtle design upgrades making it look sportier than the previous models. Although other countries get a variety of engine options, India is set to get only the petrol engine.
On the outside, the A4 now sports a broader and flatter grille which, in the Indian spec, will get a chrome treatment as well. It now features LED headlights as standard and the top-of-the-line headlights feature the Matrix LED technology. The interiors are new as well. The A4 now has a 10.1 inch fully digital MMI touchscreen display to replace the rotary and push button controls that came in the older A4.
Audi has offered six turbocharged engine options to the European market out of which three feature a mild-hybrid system. India however will get only one BS6 TFSI petrol engine variant. We still do not have an official word on which petrol engine that will exactly be, but it only makes sense for the Audi A4 to sport the 2-litre TFSI with a twin-clutch automatic, a combination that also underpins the recently launched Q2 and also its cousins like the Skoda Superb.
The A4 has proved to be a hot-seller for Audi in other markets and once it returns to India, competition in the mid-size luxury sedan segment will again be neck and neck as the A4 primarily rivals the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the BMW 3 Series. There is little information at this point of time to make any assumptions about how well it will perform, but we’ll find out in due course. Watch this space for more updates.
