The Ssangyong Rexton has received a mild facelift for the 2021 model year; it gets a new grille, LED headlights and taillights, new bumpers and revamped body cladding. Mahindra sold the Rexton with the same nameplate in India until 2017, after which it was rebadged as the Alturas G4.

The 2021 Ssangyong Rexton is available in two trim levels, Ventura and Ultimate. On the inside the former gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, and a two-zone climate control. The latter gets a bigger 9.1-inch infotainment screen with satellite navigation and a 360-degree reversing camera.

Standard features between the two include safety tech like lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking. A new safety aid that is introduced on the 2021 Rexton is called trailer sway control (TCS); this feature improves stability while towing a trailer. The 2021 Rexton also gets luxury touches like interior mood lighting, stainless-steel door finishes and leather interior.

Under the hood, the 2021 Rexton gets a more powerful engine, a 2.2-litre turbo diesel that makes 199bhp and 441 Nm of Torque. Also new is the Hyundai sourced 8-speed automatic transmission that is paired to this power plant. The Rexton continues to boast off-road credentials with a selectable four-wheel-drive system with high and low ratio gearing and off-road driving settings. The Rexton continues to offer five and seven seat options.

Mahindra has been selling the current generation Rexton as the Alturas G4 in India, it rivals the Ford Endeavour, the Toyota Fortuner and the MG Gloster. The Alturas G4 has been a slow seller for the brand since its inception, and as Mahindra plans to let go of the Ssangyong brand it remains uncertain whether the 2021 Ssangyong Rexton will make its way to our shores.
