Aprilia has unveiled the Tuono 457, the naked sibling of the RS 457 at EICMA, and the motorcycle is powered by the same 457cc twin-cylinder engine that produces 47bhp of power. Here’s our complete lowdown on what the Aprilia Tuono 457 offers.
Aprilia claims that the Tuono 457’s design is all new from a blank sheet, and the motorcycle gets all-LED lighting. The fuel tank gets a new shape and also new are the side panels and the tailpiece of the motorcycle. The twin-cylinder engine has a load-bearing function and is intentionally left uncovered. This is also the only motorcycle in its class to get a twin-beam aluminium frame. The exhaust is located under the engine to give the bike a clean look, and the Aprilia Tuono 457 comes with a roomy passenger seat – while the single-seat tail piece is an accessory.
The centre of attention on this motorcycle is the 457cc parallel twin-cylinder engine, which is liquid cooled and gets double camshaft timing along with four valves per cylinder. The power output is 47bhp, along with 43.5Nm of torque. This, coupled with a dry weight of just 159kg should make for impressive performance. The final drive of the Tuono is shorter than that of the RS 457, and the Tuono 457 also gets ride-by-wire.
The Tuono 457 is the only bike in its segment to get an aluminium frame, with the chassis forged from two lateral aluminium beams, bolted onto the steering head and at the rear. The engine is a load bearing element. Handling suspension duties is a front fork with 41mm stems and 120mm travel along with a preload adjust, while the rear shock absorber gets 130mm of travel and supports an asymmetrical swingarm.
Along with a ride-by-wire system, you get three riding modes on the Tuono 457 – Eco, Sport and Rain. You also get ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) which can be adjusted always, regardless of the riding modes. The ABS can be disengaged from the rear wheel when the bike is stationary, and the accessories offered with the Tuono 457 include a bi-directional quickshifter. The Aprilia gets a 5-inch TFT colour instrument panel as standard.
The Aprilia Tuono 457 comes in two different colours – the Piranha Red livery and a second colour called Puma Gray. Prices for the Tuono 457 have not been revealed yet, but expect it to cost below ₹4 lakh ex-showroom when it launches next year.
